The sum of 588,000 acres is owned by Ted Turner:

My crew has only fly fished this area but never climbed.
I would contact that ranch for info on wanting to climb there.

There is a very good trip report over on fourteenerworld.com about these, you'll have to join to read it, but it's worth the $20 IMO... That said, both SarahT and ChicagoTransplant were on that trip, so you may PM one of them in case they do not see this thread. This is part of the Cielo Vista Ranch, on the same property as Culebra.

Hhhmm. I thought Vermejo peak was on the New Mexico side on Ted Turners ranch.
Looks like I was wrong about that.
In any case, it's all privately owned, non accessible to peasants like me,
unless I pay a fee.

Oops! Although Vermejo Park Ranch borders Cielo Vista Ranch there are there are two geologic formations with the same name. The Vermejo Peak that the staff told me about is in fact totally on VPR property and is in New Mexico by about 15 miles. You would have to encroach onto the ranch by 15 miles from any direction to get to it. This peak is about 10,500 feet in elevation and is directly north of Little Costilla Peak.

I suppose I should get my Vermejo peaks in order.

My understanding was that the east side of the peak was not accessible, I was under the impression the east side of Vermejo is owned by the same people that own the east side of Culebra. I do not know the extents of the Vermejo Park Ranch, but from the map on their website it looks like it is 99% in New Mexico with just a little piece crossing to the north near I-25. So my guess is that they do NOT own Vermejo PEAK, just the basin to the east below it. Anyway... yes you can climb it through Cielo Vista, we did that in July and it was $150 bucks. The TR and my mountain page on SP should give you all you need, feel free to PM me but I am not going to be around this weekend, I am actually leaving in about an hour...
