Quick weather on home page

Postby BillMiddlebrook » Fri Apr 12, 2013 8:54 am

When logged into the site, you'll now see 14er weather links which display a quick 4-day forecast. When I have more time, I'll add full weather page links when the icon is clicked.

The popups use the National Weather Service XML data feed which sometimes returns slightly different results (using the same input coordinates!) than the full forecast on their main weather pages. Not much we can do about that but the resulting forecasts are similar and still useful.

Cool! I'm starting to feel like I used to live in really primitive times!

Shiny! Thanks!

Just curious, are you pulling data from NWS each time someone hovers, or are you pulling/receiving the data from them periodically, and generating the 'popup' from that?

This is great and all, but how does it help me if I don't know where the water sources are?

“There are two kinds of climbers: those who climb because their heart sings when they’re in the mountains, and all the rest.” - Alex Lowe

"There have been joys too great to describe in words, and there have been griefs upon which I cannot dare to dwell; and with those in mind I say, 'Climb if you will, but remember that courage and strength are nought without prudence, and that a momentary negligence may destroy the happiness of a lifetime. Do nothing in haste, look well to each step, and from the beginning think what may be the end.'" - Edward Whymper

Realtime pull from NWS on each hover. That's why it's a bit slow
