North Maroon Route ADDED

Postby BillMiddlebrook » Sat Aug 02, 2008 7:01 pm

Just added the Northeast Ridge route for North Maroon. Route finding is key on this route, so I've included a lot of photos.

Bill,

When did you climb? I was up on South Maroon Thursday. I always noticed you didn't have North Maroon checked off on your peak lists.
Nice to see you got it done. Keep up the great work. Your route descriptions are always dead on.

I was up there Thursday as well. I couldn't pass up the super weather.
Not having to fight the weather, I was able to spend plenty of time poking around on the peak and investigating various route options.

I believe that this was your finisher on your own site's checklist. Having met you just after your "official 54" finisher (and mine), I feel compelled to offer heartfelt congratulations.

I know that although (by your own admission) you are not a "list guy" you run a very list centric site. I cannot imagine a better peak on which to finish. It is a special peak. I plan on being up there on Monday and will think of you and all the good you've done for us 14er enthusiasts!

Great work on all fronts!!! =D> :D

Bill, great TR! I really wish I would've had this resource with me when I did this route a couple weeks ago! I crossed over almost directly across the 1st gully and ended up having climb up the whole way in the 2nd gully... #-o Not a feat I'd like to do again! I need to consult the pics from my trip, I'm trying to remember the "notch" area your TR shows...I don't remember passing that spot! :? I maybe that I crossed below it, and then climbed far to the left. We did end up off the trail a few times, but eventually found our way. Anyway, thanks again!

Thanks!
Yup, finally made time for North Maroon!

Jeff, you're right. It is a special peak and a very cool route. I might have to add it to my "annual" peak list.

Bill, congratulations on finishing the traditional list of fourteeners.

Great report. I know I have gone a few different ways the couple times I've been up there. It will be really helpful to have your route description for next time.

Thanks! No big deal, really. I've had plenty of chances to climb N. Maroon over the years - not sure why I waited so long.
I was hoping to give away a GPS on that climb, but I only saw two climbers the entire day.
