Many DIAL-UP Users out there?

Postby BillMiddlebrook » Wed Jun 04, 2008 1:40 pm

I'm trying to decide if it makes sense to provide a DVD (in the 14ers.com store) that has all of the route/stash photos on the site and possibly other things like the 360-degree summit panoramas. For those of us with high-speed Internet connections, it's not a big deal to surf through the photos on the site, but I wonder how many dial-up users struggle with the site or just don't get at much of the content because of all the large photos, etc.

If you use dial-up, I'd really like to have your input on the poll.

Thanks!

I have dial-up on one of the computers that I use, and have not had any trouble with it on this site.

I have DSL at home but often use dial-up when I'm in the field for hikes or work. I hate paying $10-$15 a pop at motels for one night of high-speed Web access. Coverage for the Verizon PC card hasn't been reliable enough outside cities for me to commit to $60 a month for two years for EVDO access.

The front page of this site loads fairly quickly for dial-up, but anything with a lot of photos either moves slow (especially ski trip reports, where people tend to post many, many more pix than for hiking reports) or doesn't fully load.

I have dial-up. It would probably buy a DVD with all the routes/pictures on them.

I just realized that if people are sick of using dial-up with 14ers.com, they probably aren't here to vote!!

Most of the site is easy enough for us poor sods stuck with dial-up connections. Loading route photos takes a little patience ... sometimes a lot of patience. A DVD would be nice to have.

thanks for all the good work, Bill

At home I’m on DSL, which compared to cable or at work stands for Dam Slow Line. Unfortunately when you buy your TV from someone else, the cable internet is way over priced.

Ha! Thats what I was thinking...they're probably still waiting for their vote to submit through dial up...you'll be flooded with dial up votes in about 3 more hours.
