Mobile (site) interface updated

Postby BillMiddlebrook » Mon Dec 09, 2013 10:41 am

If you view the 14ers.com site using a mobile device, you'll notice some changes. I've updated the home page to include an easier-to-use, tab interface for viewing "Recent Stuff" - more like what's on the right-hand side of the standard home page.

Please post in this thread if you encounter errors using the new interface.

Bill, not sure if it matters but there is no longer a link or opportunity to link to the full site off the mobile site. I used that option sometimes to view pics that you can't see on the mobile. Just thought I'd ask if it was still an option.

Very nice, but it would be even better if it would deliver a pizza to my yurt.

You got me. I had to take the "Full Site" link off of the bottom of the mobile forum pages because I'm still trying to figure out a problem I'm having with cookies and swapping back and forth between interfaces. I, too, want it back out there because I need the full site interface for admin functions, even on the mobile device.

Thanks for noticing!

More: I just updated the look of the pull-down menu (orange button on upper right) to include the full-site menu instead of those blue buttons. Looks pretty good right now but I still have to test it out on a bunch of different devices.

UPDATE:

Some mobile browsers now provide an option to switch your browser's User Agent to a desktop version. This may be helpful if your in the 14ers.com mobile forum and would like to switch to the full forum to see photos, etc. The option is available in Dolphin and Chrome but those are the only ones I can check right now.

So, I've decided not to code a "Full Site" link at the bottom of the mobile forum pages.

I may be stupid (it's been said before), but I'm having trouble find a "searchlight for the forum on the mobile site. Is this a full site only feature?

(Overwhelming thanks for the best site and community around)

You're right! I failed to add it to the mobile menu, which is displayed when you press the orange MENU button up top. That search option is for the entire site because the current mobile forum interface doesn't have a "forum search" button. It might be time to pull the trigger on the new mobile forum interface which I finished customizing a few weeks back...

Thanks!

Not really a problem, but I did have a question. I just sent two PM's from my phone (via the new mobile interface, which is very nice), and neither one showed up in my outbox after I sent them. Is there a way to know if they actually got sent?
