Climbing in the Swiss Alps (Sept 1-6, 2013)

Postby SarahT » Mon Sep 23, 2013 12:44 pm

I recently enjoyed my third, and thus far my favorite, climbing trip to the Alps and thought some others may be interested in reading about it. Its tough to find useful trip reports in English so maybe this will help with planning if you're thinking about going over there. Figured it was better just to post links here in the forum instead of cluttering up the trip report section with non Colorado stuff.

Peaks Climbed:
Matterhorn - 14,692’
Dufourspitze (aka Monte Rosa) - 15,203’
Nordend - 15,121
Zumsteinspitze - 14,970’
Signalkuppe - 14,941’
Parrotspitze - 14,541’
Ludwigshöhe - 14,242’

Dufuorspitze & Nordend:
Signalkuppe Group:

Your annual Europe trip reports are as always a treat, thank you for sharing!

I have the basics of trad and glacier, but it appears I really need to learn the short rope and short rope+fixed line techniques...any educational resource suggestions? It also kind of sounds like I would need to hire a guide...just to avoid having them chase me around like Sherpas chasing Ueli Steck off Everest. And wow, how many Euros does one need to carry...$20 for water, $80 for train, $30 for Gondola, beer, lunch, etc. Although your pics make it a real life Mastercard/Priceless commercial.
