So there I was...

Postby Kiefer » Wed Aug 04, 2010 2:08 pm

...sitting on the summit of Mt. Evans. I just walked over from Bierstadt, still relishing a fast scramble across the Sawtooth and sat down to a [very] surprisingly empty summit. After all, Evans has a road to its damn top. What's the odds of no cars in the parking lot? I must have hit the timing just right. I sat down on a piece of rock that reminded me of Crestone Needle (I needed to do something to make Evans exciting). I tore into a powerbar, ok, tore might be a bit of a misnomer. The delightful taste of Pecan Swirl cardboard prevented me from opening the little morsel in under 15 minutes.
The Strawberry Shortcake I could have had opened in near 12 minutes. Anyway, I was about to take a bite when I heard this 'lip-smacking' sound coming from just behind me on the right and a light repetitive 'whoosh', similar in nature to brushing the grass with a broom.
I looked over to see what it was and there was this marmot, just sitting there smacking his lips sitting prarie-dog style with his arms crossed. He picked something out of his left ear, inspected it and ate it. Then he asked me, "Hey, Dude..."

"...it's just you and me up here. Why don't we put on some Barry White, pour some vino, split that shortcake, and see where this goes. You seem like an adventurous, liberal guy with an open mind. Besides, we're alone and, on a 14er with a road to the top, that must be a sign. Speaking of which, I'm a Leo."
