I think I had that, but it was just an auxillary patch and not a merit badge.

I might still have mine...

It's for Scouts who climb a 14er. There are criteria and I think 2500 or 3000 vertical feet are required. Normally the climb is to have been make with a Pack or Troop but if a parent makes the climb with the Scout, the Scout office (Federal just east of Mile High Stadium) will usually issue one. You have to fill out the paper work. Two of our sons earned these patches. I think it is uncool to be auctioning them off on Ebay.

That goat would scare the hell out of an elk or moose.
Seems like the times that I need a mountain the most are the times that I can not get to them.

I see that the patch sold for only 99 cents. I guess my son doesn't have to worry about the 14er patch disappearing out of his collection after all. :-"

I tried searching for something official about this badge but came up empty.

Yeah it definitely was not a merit badge it was an auxiliary badge you could earn by climbing 14ers. It was awarded upon completion of your 1st 14er and I think there were also pins you could get if you more beyond your 1st one. Takes me back to when I was I was 11 and doing my first one, Mt. Lincoln, it sure seemed a lot harder back then. I also learned my lesson on why you dont mess around with electrical storms on 14ers. We got caught in an afternoon T-storm on top of Cameron and I remember the rocks a singin' that day. I am surprised I ever climbed another one :D
