Mount Lady Washington - Sunrise Photo Op May 4

Post by Daniel Joder »

For photographers and anyone interested...I was checking out The Photographer's Ephemeris and it looks like this coming Monday, May 4, would be a good sunrise to catch from the summit of MLW. You'll get the sunrise at 5:59a.m. and a pretty much full Moon moonset 30 minutes later--and if you walk a bit down the gentle north slope of MLW you just might be able to line up the Moon with the Keyhole. Of course, The Diamond on Longs should be aglow as well. At least that's what I'm hoping. I plan on starting up from the trailhead around 1a.m. or so (maybe even slightly earlier just to be sure) and probably summit MLW via the Boulderfield depending on conditions. Photogs or not, anyone who likes to hike at night or by moonlight is welcome. The forecast is iffy, so we could get shut out of any good images, but you never know until you try. Lotsa snow up there, so I anticipate some snowshoe fun unless a group of Scouts can get up there over the weekend and pack the trench for us. FYI...I may also do this same thing on Tuesday, June 2, if May 4 is too cloudy. P.S. Can I get a volunteer to hike up to the Keyhole that morning and pose there in knickers, hobnailed boots, and a big canvas rucksack (a shoulder-coiled Goldline rope and 80cm wooden shaft ice ax would be an added plus) from 5:59a.m. to 6:30a.m.?

Do you have all these things, or are we raiding Neptune right before?! :)

I have a 80 cm wooden shaft ice ax you could borrow.
