Father Dyer/Crystal Lake Road Conditions

Post by atalarico »

Hey, has anyone been up the 4wd road to Lower Crystal Lake lately? I'm thinking about scrambling Father Dyer on Wednesday, and I'd love to be able to drive up to the lake.

Thanks!

I was up there on Monday. There are still about 3 or 4 sizeable patches of snow on the road, and one pretty deep stream crossing that I had trouble finding a way across - probably a good foot deep or so, 15-20 feet across, and fairly swiftly moving.

Did you drive or hike? If you drove, what kind of truck do you have?
Thanks!

My old Dakota can only get as far as the Spruce Creek TH, so I hiked all of the 4wd sections. I hiked up the Crystal Creek road, and the gate was closed there, as well as the one by the Francies's cabin turnoff. Not sure how or if you can drive farther than that, but I can't imagine you'd be able to get much closer to the lake anyway. I postholed in a couple of sections around treeline.
I'll post a pic of the creek crossing if and when I get my laptop to an internet connection.
