Need beta on Isolation, Ogalalla, and Copeland

Postby JEyez » Thu Aug 09, 2012 12:27 pm

I need Isolation, Ogalalla, and Copeland to finish the RMNP 13ers and I am wondering if it is possible to link the three in one long day? I am aware that you can link Copeland and Ogalalla but not sure if adding Isolation would be feasible. Is there anyone out there with any info that can save me from another Wild Basin slog? I have been spending many days in the Basin, and it's absolutely beautiful, but I need to move on!

The ridge from Ogalalla past Ouzel Peak to Isolation is very doable. It is a long day, but it's all class 2.

You got the tougher part, Copeland to Ogalalla, figured out already.

I was planning on tomorrow but I can wait until next week and hit up something different tomorrow if you need a hiking partner. Either Thursday or Friday next week is good for me. By the way, I've been meaning to shoot you a "thanks" for your Indian Peaks Tour trip report. It helped me a great deal. I also wanted to ask you where you descended when you reached Niwot Ridge at the end of your day. You didn't hike the trail to the bottom then backtrack to your shoes did you? Is there a spot to descend the ridge to the lakes that I missed?

Thursday or Friday works for me and I am flexible so let's watch the weather. I would love to rock a loooong day and get these 3 in one push as well. A crazy early start time is probably in order to ensure success.

As for Niwot Ridge descent: I just popped back up onto it wherever it looked like the easiest climb from Green Lakes. Initially I had assumed I would be descending back to Lake Isabelle to meet the Pawnee Pass trail but was happy when I saw that I was in between the two lakes. I took the path of least resistance down in order to get some glissading in and hit the Pawnee Pass trail just west of Long Lake, near the wooden bridge that crosses the creek.
