Re: W Spanish Peak, Cordova Pass conditions?
I climbed Westie last saturday. Cordova pass is open, but has some nice sized muddy rutts. If you have some ground clearance, take that vehicle. Get an early start. Below treeline is a posthole nightmare. Once above treeline, easy going. Fairly dry. I got 2 decent glissades on the way down. I'll post pics when I get home from work tonight.

Sweet, thanks for the beta, looking forward to any pictures!
I'm assuming you had an ax for your glissades, but was it dry enough to be safe without gear?
Could a stock Outback clear the ruts, in your opinion, or should I just bring the mt. bikes (option 2)?
I gotta make sure my wife is happy with the hike...or at least give her fair warning...thanks!

Re: W Spanish Peak, Cordova Pass conditions?
I was up there saturday too. I think we saw Craigo and partner above treeline on the ridge? We were coming down at the time.
Anyway. Yes Cordova Pass Rd is not much of an issue.
Coming down from WSP was a bit of a postholing problem, but I would not bother bringing snowshoes. You'll hit some maddening high drift areas, then long dry patches. I had put my snowshoes on, only to take them off shortly after and left them on my pack for the remainder of the hike. Otherwise I would have been constantly putting them on and taking them off.
FYI: you can lose the trail easily in the snow. Hopefully the week's worth of melting will help out there.
We too got in some good glissades on the ridge coming down...my knees were very grateful!
Enjoy!
