Mt Guyot SW ridge?

Post by rolo tomassi »

This is one of those ridges I have looked at for a while. From the south it appears to be a knife edge and my intel gathering on topo maps makes it look like interesting.
I stole pic from Kevin Baker's report

Every time I pass through south park I wonder what it is like up there. Anyone have any beta on it?
I am expecting class 3-4 with snow and exposure, but I could be wrong.

Lately I find that when I explore a route that is not common there is a very good reason for it. I plan on getting up there and giving it a go next weekend - weather dependent, and I'll try to post some pics.

I did it this past June, although there was a bit less snow then. We picked up the ridge at the far southern terminus (where it curves east) and followed it to the summit. My reasoning was the same: the route looked very aesthetic on the the map, and it did put you in an interesting position while you were there.

There's a trail most of the way along the ridge on the west side. It vanishes in the talus on the final climb to the summit so you could gain and follow the ridge crest from there if you wanted to add more bite to the outing.

Consider your descent route carefully.

When I get home from work I'll see if I have any pictures that might help you...
