Incline?

Post by CO_girl66 »

Anyone who lives in the Springs knows of the imfamous incline. Hundreds go up each day and I was thinking many of those would be on this site. So, what is everyone's best and average time? I'd be interested how I rank among others in the 14ers community.
Do what you like. Like what you do. Optimism can take you anywhere.

You cannot stay on the summit forever; you have to come down again... So why bother in the first place? Just this, what is above knows what is below, but what is below does not know what is above. One climbs, one sees. One descends, one sees no longer, but one has seen. There is an art to conducting oneself in the lower region by the memory of what one saw higher up. When one can see no longer, one can at least know.

My best is 27:45, although that was the only time I have broke under 28. I usually average in the 29-32 minute range in the summer and slower in the other seasons. I think you pretty much have to run a portion of it to go any faster than 27 unless you're a seriously quick speed hiker! I think the record is 17 something!

Starting from the very bottom...
My best time was 33:42 (about 7 years ago)
Lately I've been coming in around 38-41, without pushing it.

26:31

I have a theory that it is not possible to break 30 without doing some running. I had a friend that hiked very fast and never took breaks and he was always around 31.

I'm not terribly fast and when I was training for a marathon I finished in about 33:00 flat from the fence at the very bottom. I think you could break 30 if you skipped steps in the less steep sections. Right now I'm at about 35. I try and jog like 20 stairs and then walk 20 etc... but that ends up tiring me out much more than if I just speed hike all of the way up.
