Tenmile conditions / Pacific Peak on 01/16/09

Post by climbinfool »

Hello all,

I've looked for any recent threads regarding this area (but wasn't able to find any) and checked the weather forecast as well as the CAIC website for current avalanche conditions, but am wondering if anyone has firsthand knowledge of conditions in the Mayflower Gulch area (specifically Pacific Peak) between Copper Mountain and the summit of Fremont Pass. Apparently, Copper Mountain has ~ 15 inches of new snow which is more than the surrounding areas - but the CAIC website says that avalanche danger in the area is essentially no different than pretty much anywhere else in Colorado north of US50. Has anyone climbed Pacific Peak or at least been in the area recently and have suggestions regarding the best route to take? Last winter, I climbed Crystal Peak and "Atlantic Peak" which Pacific sits between - so I am fairly familiar with the area. I plan on climbing Pacific tomorrow morning and any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks a lot,

Matt

Thanks Media Dude,

I appreciate your reply. The weather's supposed to be pretty great, and I plan on sticking to ridges and staying away from any avy spots. Last year, that area had some of the biggest cornices I've ever seen - even Mayflower Hill had a really impressive one.

Have a great weekend,

Matt
