Bierstadt\Evans 10/30

Postby Aavronle » Mon Oct 28, 2013 9:24 am

Anyone want to go. Im from Tulsa, usually come up here and go alone because I dont know anyone around here and everyone back home thinks climbing 14ers is nuts. Hoping that will change with this forum. My goal for the year is to get on some ice and snow in preparation for Mt Rainier next year. Maybe find a team to do Rainier with as well. I've done Greys\Torreys, Pikes and Longs this summer. Will be back a few more times this winter as well.

Aavron

FYI, will be coming up from the springs.

Just an FYI on my ability in case someone was concerned. I did Pikes, including the bottomless pit leg which made it 30 miles all together, last month and the very next day climbed longs in under 9 hours. I think that makes me average.

Hey I'm looking to do the Harvard/Columbia traverse that same day ... It's 2 of my final 3 peaks in the Sawatch. Wanna do that instead of Bierstadt/Evans? I have a post in this forum describing my situation as well.

I'll call in 30 and if I don't reach you we can talk tomorrow. Here's the route I want to do: http://www.14ers.com/routemain.php?route=harv4&peak=Mt.+Harvard+and+Mt.+Columbia

That traverse is a pain in the arse. Lots of talus hopping. Stay as close possible to the contouring sections on the NE side of Columbia or drop way down below the gullies. You may lose a couple hundred feet and gain some mileage but it might be worth it. If I ever do that route again I would drop down further than the route specifies. If you look at the topo you'll see that the terrain levels out more around 12,600.

Thanks, I read the same thing online. Was going to take another look at it before going out.
