Torreys 10/12?

Postby Castlerock23 » Thu Oct 10, 2013 11:34 am

If the weather isn't too abysmal - I am not quite ready for anything too bad yet - I will likely head up for a 600-630 departure, south slopes ascent. Also, trying to get a feel if anyone else will be on mountain that day, as I definitely hate to go it without anyone around at all if it's not summer-ish conditions. Thanks!

Summerish conditions? Have you looked at the weather forecast for the next couple days?

Have you tried that link since the government shutdown?

Yes, there are other sources for the forecast.

Yes, and it still works. "the information this site provides is necessary to protect life and property, it will be updated and maintained during the Federal Government shutdown."

Edit: And Loveland got 5" of snow overnight.

I meant that I would feel better if there were others on the mountain since there won't be summer like conditions. I have checked multiple weather sources and decided to give it a go as proposed.

I'm pretty sure there will be other people up there especially on a Saturday.

I think me and a friend will be going up Greys in the morning.

I'm heading to Grays & Torreys tonight, arriving around 1:00AM. Sleep then start around 6:00AM
It's gonna be cold, around 30's in the trail then around 10's on summit.
Somebody posted few days ago to bring snowshoes, there are around 10" of snow in some areas.
I'm bringing my winter gear :-D

Thanks JohnnyZ...appreciate that. I feel better knowing that a few people have indicated they would be on Grays or Torreys when I will!

Grays & Torreys are very popular mountains as Quandary. Tomorrow is gonna be sunny skies and winds.
Clear skies means people on the mountains.
I'll do the combo Grays then Torreys.
:P

Why so early? It will be dark too. Sunrise is around 0700.

I hiked G/T two weeks ago in similar conditions that will prob'ly exist tomorrow. All the early starters turned around due to cold and wind. The road was rough but a couple 2wd cars made it to the TH. Might want 4wd tomorrow.
