Tried to sign up, but had to click on FB photo of which I have no account, so I am SOL. I look just like my avatar.

Edit: Got around the FB thing. Pending approval of membership, I'm in.

Don't worry about the meetup RSVP, I'll be watching this thread too to track the total of planned participants. Just be at the Morrison park-and-ride ready to go at 6.

Separate from the Meetup group I was planning on these this weekend as well, though I was looking at hiking in and summiting on Saturday, spend the night and hike out Sunday. My biggest concern is that Saturday is the start of rifle season for Elk. I had thought wilderness areas may not be open to hunting but isn't the case, just no vehicle, ATV access.

Brian, are you planning to come in from the Rich Creek TH?

I don't know where the Rich Creek TH is. The plan is to start from the unsigned "trailhead" about 8 miles down FR 431 west of US 285.

Great hike - I just did it on Sunday. There is no snow to contend with right now, and the road is in great shape.

Enjoy!

Did you go up the route described on Summitpost where you proceed to the saddle between East Buffalo Peak and Pt. 12,644? How was route finding? much deadfall encountered?

mtnmaneric, Were you guys in the jeep and 4runner? Actually, now that I think about it, we did see an entry from someone from Erie! We were in the green xterra. Not sure how we missed seeing you up on the peaks!

We somewhat followed the route as described on Summitpost, we headed a bit more East so we could go over to 12644. On the way down, we went farther North and down into the valley before heading over to the car. There was not much deadfall, though the talus on top was a bit of a pain, it didn't last long.

I am sure there will be hunters in the area on Saturday, there was an outfitter than already had a big tent setup. Lots of moose, elk and deer signs around.

Me and a partner will be joining this climb tomorrow. Leaving from Castle Rock at 6am and so should arrive around the same time as your meetup group Brian.

Great day to be out yesterday. A few photos of the day https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10200471452291438.1073741831.1310985357&type=1&l=22698e6fd9

Good to see you again Brian and everyone else in the meet up group. I do have to say I didn't much care for that descent off West Buffalo Peak and crossing the drainage. Traversing on a slope when there is just enough snow to make it slick isn't fun for the ankles, knees and hips.
