(I was the driver) Bear in mind that that was in a subaru outback. If you have more ground clearance and/or knobbier tires, you'd probably be fine. If you don't have more ground clearance, keep an eye out for some flat, light colored rocks in the middle of the road about 1.5 miles up from the Angel of Shavano trailhead - I knocked a hole in my exhaust on the way down, so you might want to roll them out of the way.

thanks!

We had everything we needed (skis, snowshoes, and microspikes) but found out that the microspikes were worth every once. Downhill skis and boots are great for the downhill but not worth the weight. Next time it will be AT gear. Snowshoes work OK but if there is a crew to pack trail they are not needed. Mountain Mike

Thanks a lot to two guys who were boiling water on the summit and shared some with me, as I just had run out. Also many thanks to Ted/Patrick and Ryan who let me borrow/exchange the pole for skiing. Fun day!

Nice meeting everyone at the bonfire Saturday night! Just wanted to let you know Alex and I made it to both Shavano and Tabaguache no problem on Sunday. Beautiful day, and pretty easy climb with all of the tracks from the day before. Stefan made it up as well with his board and boarded down the Angel. Thanks everyone for the hard packed trail up :-D

I had a great time at the Spring Gathering! It was really nice to meet some new people and to hang out with old friends. Special thanks to nkan02, B[3] for the hike up and ACERyGuy007 & Dale during the descent. You guys made for a great day. I hope to see you again soon.

Was floatation necessary on the descent in the trees?

Flotation was highly appreciated by those who had it.
