Utah slot canyon April 13

Postby Scott P » Wed Mar 06, 2013 11:11 am

I am looking for a partner or two to finish a technical canyon in Dinosaur National Monument. Last year, we completed half of the canyon (which was very scenic), but I think we missed the best part.

Any weekend in April is fine other than the last weekend.

Update: Weather permitting, we are doing this on April 13.

I'm slow and fat. Unfortunately, those are my good qualities.

I'd love to go Scott. Currently my April weekends are all free. I have quite a bit of technical canyoneering experience. I'll PM you my background.

I'd be interested in coming along. Great time of year for doing stuff in that area, and I also live in the Glenwood Area!

Hi Scott,

Can't wait for the week to be over and get back outside again. What is the current status of this trip, and if it is still on what is the plan?

The trip is still on if anyone wants to go.

I'm hoping to camp at Split Mountain Campground if people can make it there by Friday (or carpool from Craig if you'd like).

To anyone interested, please let me know now though; otherwise I was planning to head over to Little Death Hollow instead.

Hi Scott, we definitely are interested. We will be arriving late (~midnight) to the Split Mountain Campground. At least it is easy to recognize your 'ru. What is your itinerary for the trip and will Kessler be there?

Kessler will be there. Plan is to climb to the head of Hog Canyon Saturday and descend it.

The forecast isn't terrible, but it isn't that great either:

http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=40.44119885143605&lon=-109.16427612304687

Wet rock would make the approach dangerous and high winds are also predicted.

Let's see what the forecast says tomorrow and discuss it.

Anyone who wants to go, please give me a call on my cell at 208-859-1697 or day phone (7:00 AM-4:30 PM) at 970-824-4401 ext 467. My day phone gets better reception and it isn't a problem to call.
