Fourth Annual 14ers Winter Welcomer!

Need a climbing partner? Trying to form a hiking group for an outing?

Should we cancel or change the date due to winds?

Poll ended at Sat Oct 27, 2012 9:04 pm

1. Let's not cancel. Winter and wind go go together. Still down for Saturday!

2. Yes, let's cancel. Gusts to 55 mph are not my idea of a welcomer. Besides, I'm not very experienced, and I'd like something mellow to start out.

3. I'd really like to go, but maybe conditions will be better next weekend. I'd be down for Nov 3 or 4.

Thanks to everyone who organized it and and who showed up! It was my first 14er and I loved it, I can't wait to do another one.

What a great group today! Thanks, everyone. It was nice to see old friends and meet new friends. Thanks again to Cookie Hiker for the treats, and everyone who helped out today to make it such a great outing!

Jay's thermometer read 4 degrees at the summit. While the winds may not have been as high as predicted, the temps were much colder than forecast. My guess of -20 wind chill sounds like it jives with Dave's calculations.

Honestly, there's only one calendar winter trip I've done where the weather was as brutal as this late Fall Quandary trip. I rarely need mittens, and in the last three winters have only once had to put on overpants. Today, Quandary's summit required both. Mother Nature definitely did not hand us a beginner day, but you guys all handled it very well!

So everyone who made it today, give yourself a pat on the back! Making it through today, you probably won't find winter much of an issue, at least weather-wise. Congrats, all! =D>

I'll have some photos up here pretty quick...

Jim, great group summit shot! I so wish Kristine, the dogs, and I could have stuck around up top for it, but alas Rainie and Kona's paws were pretty frozen up and we needed to get them down.

Congratulations to everyone for braving the elements and making a not so ideal weather day on Quandary quite frankly pretty ideal! Great to meet so many of you. We thoroughly enjoyed everyone's positive attitude and great company.

Jim, a huge thanks to you for again putting together a successful 14ers gathering!

Cheers!
Brandon

It looks like everybody had a great time. I'm a little confused though. I haven't checked in on this thread for a long time and I was planning on coming but I thought the date was for Halloween. Was it changed or did I just read the date wrong from the very beginning?

Jim - I will echo others and say a big Thank You for organizing this again this year. It was FANTASTIC meeting so many people on the mountain! Nothing like a little "fall breeze" (and some GREAT cookies) to make for a wonderful time! And yeah, I DO look like my avatar! :-D

I was among the last few people to summit yesterday. Here are a couple of pictures of people who summited about the same time. If you want me to send you the actual files, send me a PM.
