For what its worth I was up there over Labor Day weekend and I saw a Honda Accord at the trail head.

And Crown Victoria can drive Hells Revenge. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KFwPXEeJ3aI&feature=related
But I wouldn't recommend that either. If you get stuck in the backcountry, you’re obligated to pay the towing bill. Backcountry towing bills can be $1,000 or more. Not to mention your fluids running all over the trails and in the creeks. I'm just saying I wouldn't take it up there, but I'm more cautious than some.

Anyone interested in carpooling to the Gathering? I live in Monument. Willing to drive, just looking for someone to help with gas.

Waggs - the "Scottfarish" is a +2....(3 total) That would seem to make 9 for Saturday with CCU_Jim and Farcedude out

So...maybe ~50% of people didn't see this thread and another 5 up there on their own so maybe 25 folks on the route? Not too crowded, still gotta be careful though.

It appears that you could either take the northerly approach (Lost Creek Rd.) or the southerly road (along the Crystal River that leads to Schofield Pass). Wells' guide book on 4wd roads tags the Lost Creek Rd. as "difficult", and Lou Dawson says the Crystal City approach "should be walked by all but expert 4WD enthusiasts". I'm in a stock Jeep, with mediocre 4W driving skills at best. The S-ridge will be bad enough... I'd rather not roll a vehicle just getting there :)

I didn't know this until we climbed Snowmass a couple weeks ago, but I guess on roads like that it's all about the tires. Dmccool took his Tundra up there with one key modification: all terrain tires. Them roads is rocky, and I'd hate to see someone get a flat all the way in.

I am also looking to hike the S-ridge on Sat.

Anyone still has a space in your vehicle? I am in Denver but can meet somewhere else. Thanks.

I'd be interested in a carpool on late afternoon Friday (back Sunday). My vehicle is not going to make it into Lead King basin (Subaru) :(

I was thinking of grabbing Sopris while at the Fall Gathering, but had not entirely ruled out the possibility of Snowmass.

Anyone know if you can get a full-sized truck up the Lead King Basin Road? I have a Jeep I normally drive for tougher 4wd routes, but will be in my truck this weekend, since I can camp in it like a guy who's too lazy to pitch a tent. But, while my truck has good ground clearance, it is also quite large (an extended cab long bed Dodge 2500 diesel).

I'll have room for one in my 4Runner.

You can subtract me and my wife. We are flying to VA for my grandmother's funeral. Be safe and have fun.
