Little Bear 04/16

Postby Yalegirl09 » Tue Apr 05, 2011 1:25 pm

I really want to get up to Little Bear Peak before all the snow melts out in the Sangres! I was thinking of heading up on Saturday 4/9 or Saturday 04/16. Definitely looking for a good partner or two! With the weather forecast this weekend we are now planning the 16th! So if anyone is up for it let me know!

I was up there last Friday (4/1), and the snow was nice early on, but NASTY in the afternoon. The descent was excruciating at points, post-holing to my crotch even with snowshoes on. I would plan on getting down early.

Hi...I will go with you on the 16th if that is your plan. Can't do it the 9th.

I'm interested in the 9th if the weather improves. Not looking too nice right now, but it's still pretty early for a forecast.

Hey!
The weather is looking pretty good to me for the 9th.. only a 20% slight chance. I have one definite partner right now and we are heading up to the cabin the night before for an early start on saturday am. You're welcome to join us if you want to!

Regarding the weather though, it was supposed to be a 10% chance of snow when I went to Humboldt. And that 10% turned into near-whiteout conditions so we'll see how the weather forecast adjusts through the week. :?

I'm still in too! We'll definitely watch it... IF not there's always the 16th! But hopefully we'll have some good conditions!

Hi Yalegirl (Regina),
From the description above, sounds like you are getting there on Friday night, starting on Saturday am, correct? what start time do you have in mind? are you hiking out on Saturday then? We (my husband and I) are also considering LB this weekend but Sunday works better for us. We would love to catch up with you and your group to get updates on conditions on your hike out. If your plans change to Sunday, you are welcome to hike with us. If this weekend does not work out, we will be watching every weekend between now and the Memorial Day.

Hi Katie!
My partner and I are looking at bumping our climb back to the 16th for better weather... But if you hold off we can give you conditions then! Otherwise if you wouldn't mind passing conditions along if you go that'd be awesome!

Does anyone know if there is enough snow for a summit ski descent?
