Mt Columbia Apr 9-10 or other?

Postby trailsntales » Mon Apr 04, 2011 12:38 pm

Hi--
I know my fellow climbers can appreciate this---I'm still on a mission to climb Columbia's winter route (sw couliour); given acceptable weather and avy conditions. So, I'm looking for any and all interested in joining or if
you have a planned trip, may I join up with you? I don't feel comfortable being solo in snow conditions.
So if anyone is interested please let me know.
I typically plan for weekend days but could arrange other if given some advance time to plan.

fyi, last weekend trail recon--had at least a foot of new snow over the previous cut trail; snow was wet and heavy due to the warm temps and the winds were very high. Alas, no summit attempt.

Thanks!
Kay

I am definitely interested. I could do 8th 9th or possibly the 10th. What is your planned method for travel/ approach (skis, snowshoes)?

Hey Mike & Rodney,
I'm flexible for this Sat or Sun. or other upcoming weekends. I'm on snow shoes. Coming from Colorado Springs.
Weather is 50% chance of snow & winds not too extreme so far, not much accumulation those dates. Looks like
accumulations may add through week. CAIC showing improving Avelanche conditions but too early to tell yet.
Let's keep watching, what do you think?

Sounds like a plan. Looks like that route could get dangerous really quick depending on how the snow is loading. If conditions are not too swell, I'd be up for going up another nearby peak or route.

Are you guys still planning on hitting this up this weekend? I might be interested and would be on ski's (splitboard) as well. At first I thought I'd just get in a final weekend of lift-served skiing but the temptation to get out there is just TOO GREAT. Let me know.

Cheers

J, Mike, Rodney,
Weather looks fair, and Avelanche conditions are moderate/low today--hoping still looks good for tomorrow. I'm in for Saturday if you are. What do you think?

Oh and---start no later than 5:00 am? Parking is still 1.5-2.0 miles from TH, and another 3 miles to camp area. Let's talk, shoot a PM if you want.
