Softshell hosen

Postby cheeseburglar » Sun Sep 30, 2012 8:18 pm

Has anybody ever seen softshell pants in the style of leiderhosen?
I really need a pair for this ski season.

No lederhosen, but I have seen ones that look like jeans. Currently only black in stock, but they used to have blue, too.
If they weren't $188 I'd pick up a pair just so that I could read all the stories about, "And then I saw a guy summit Rainier wearing jeans!"

You really want Lederhosen-style pants for skiing?

Why not go with a Dirndl instead so your knees don't freeze! :-D

Of course, you may prefer ski bibs.
Not sure if I'll do more 14ers. The trip reports are too tiring.

That photo is disturbing.
I prefer the lederhosen that are a little longer. Those look like cutoffs.
I have a cousin in Munich this week. Hopefully he'll get out of the party long enough to check some gear stores for me.

I sometimes climb in a pair of green wool "long hosen" which I think are close to what you are looking for, although they aren't a modern softshell material... They are oldschool softshell. I get them at army surplus stores. They have all kinds of awesome crap at those stores. I also sometimes climb in a kilt which typically winds up providing me with poor belays, but man is it worth it!

I do need a pair of wool army surplus knickers.
I'm still looking for something in a modern fabric.

You do know that this is a most unusual thread for 14ers.
But hey, please post a photo of what you come up with.

(This could start a fashion war, you know.)

Seriously, for cool-season biking I prefer knee-high socks and bike shorts to full-length tights. Similar concept. Really far more comfortable. Maybe the concept could transfer over to alpine hiking. Definitely interested in what you come up with. Thanks.
