Yes, you can be in separate cars and alert the other driver as to where the drive-thru liquor store is...

Seriously, they are great to have on the trail. Especially on winter trips. We've been in separate groups on hut trips and they've been great, especially since a trip required gathering everyone up and turning back to the trailhead.
Mountains cast spells on me - Why, because of the way Earth-heaps lie, should I be Chocked by joy mysteriously; stilled or drunken-gay? Why should a brown hill trail Tug at my feet to go? Why should a boggy swale Tune my heart to a nameless tale Mountain marshes know?

When you get into groups of that size what tends to happen is that you have a fast group and middle group and a slower group. Having 7 different radios is going to create more problems that it solves.

The way that generally works best is this have a "front leader" with a walkie talkie for the fast people and a "rear leader" for the slower end. Instruct you front leader to wait up periodically, especially at any important junctions or turnoffs.

As for how well walkie talkies work in the field--it's really hit and miss.

Hey, give the gal a break. She just joined today and doesn't know the ins and outs. Let's not show our sarcastic side.....,
