Here's our late great cat Ali (1999-2012) relaxing after a hike.

I miss her, but it's a lot easier to plan multi-day trips now.

My cat died after the vet prescribed Meloxicam after minor surgery. She was 12. Damn the vet, he should have known better. I miss her. Don't ever trust a doc or a vet. Look up the medication first on the internet before you use it.

The top one is Simeon who we had to put down earlier this year ... ... she was 17-1/2 years old and a helluva great cat. And, then, of course :wft: there's Presto (she's 8-1/2).

As if none of us have ever come back with a cool, quasi-epic story instead of being victim to tragic rockfall, a fatal stumble, a heart attack, an embolism, a lightning strike, a bear attack, collapsing cornice, some psycho with an axe, a falling tree, carbon monoxide, even falling asleep at the wheel getting to a mountain. If you can't accept the fact that sometimes "s**t happens", then you live with the illusion that your epic genius and profound wilderness intelligence has put you in total and complete control of yourself, your partners, and the mountain. How mystified you'll be when "s**t happens" to you! - FM

One morning, I heard my cat Autumn howling in the basement. Autumn howls alot, so at first, I thought nothing of it. I decided I should probably check on her before leaving for work, and the picture shows what I found. Autumn had decided she wanted a snack, so she thought it was a good idea to stick her head in the mouse food bag. After taking the picture, I removed the bag from her head. (There is a reason that I store the pet food in a closed tuperware container--now I keep the mouse food shut away as well). Funnily enough, Autumn has taken no interest in the actual mice.

This is my kitty Galileo. He's 11 now--wandered into our yard as a stray at 9 months and we've had him ever since. No hikes for him, but he turned me into a cat person. Love him!
