Well I've used this e-410 for enough years I can stick it out until it dies and then see where the market is at that time. So I don't have IS. So I bought an easy to carry tripod. Problem solved for $54 for now. Will use it this weekend in the San Juans hopefully for some night shots since I also got remote release for long exposures. Will transfer to that thread later. :-D

If im hiking to make serious images I take my Gitzo GT2530 Carbon tripod with a Gitzo series 2 magnesium head and an RRS Panning base (you can see it on the side of my bag in my avatar photo) This setup is pretty light and is as heavy as I would go hiking with. Its sturdy enough for most anything. In heavy winds I hang my backpack from it for stability. Like I had to do one morning on the Wild Goose Island lookout on St. Mary Lake in Glacier National Park this past july when I saw another guy's camera and tripod fly back from its spot due to the gusty 30-50mph west winds

So I picked up a Sunpak Pro 423PX at Costco last week for $99. Not bad at all really. It weighs just about 3lbs., has a decent pistol grip ball head that can be removed (something a lot of these small tripod combos can't do) and folds down to 24". While it's not the smallest or the lightest out there, I thought it performed beautifully on my last trip out.

Some specs: The center bar comes out and can be reversed for super low shots
- Max height is 65"
- Can hold 15lbs
- Adjustable leg angle
- Spring loaded hook on the bottom of the shaft so you can hang weight for stability in the wind
- Bubble level on the legs AND head
- Feet screw back for spikes if you need them
- Neoprene leg warmers which I'm sure could be cut off if you really needed but I like them for warmth and extra protection for the legs.

Overall, a great little value! Pretty much anywhere online they are $120 so being able to walk into Costa, pay $20 less, and have the comfort of knowing you can return it locally is pretty worth it.
- Stand at the crossroads and look; ask for the ancient paths, ask where the good way is, and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls.
