36 or 34 up to RMNP is good bet in late September. It traverses a lot of altitude, so SOMEWHERE along it is peak color.

Very nice pics! Can anyone give an update on how the colors look at Maroon Bells? I plan to drive there this weekend but want to make sure the colors are good before I drive 220 miles each way. thanks in advance...

They were really starting to change this last weekend. I think within the next couple of weeks will be the best for that area. Most aspens around 9000' to 10000' were already changing and the ones below were still green. The drive back towards Castle and Conundrum also had some very cool views. Enjoy!
Security is mostly a superstition. It does not exist in nature, nor do the children of men as a whole experience it. Avoiding danger is no safer in the long run than outright exposure. Life is either a daring adventure, or nothing.

Maroon Bells from yesterday, 9/10. Based on those, it looks like it could be at peak early next week, which I base on last years' progression from a similar stage. If it were me, I'd be inclined to wait until next weekend given the choice.

Thank you, Darren and SeracZack. I will wait another week.

Ok, I'll add one more. I just love the look of glowing embers, or radioactive material look of this clump.

Was up at Kenosha Pass and Guanella Pass today. Lots of peaking color on the Georgetown side of Guanella. I took some great shots in the Clear Lake Campground. Most of the color on Kenosha will take a week or so to get there I think.

Still early, but more color than a week ago.

3 p.m. Thursday 9/13 on the grounds on the Rainbow Lake Resort. (That's near the Cottonwood Lake turnoff, west of Buena Vista.)
