Hoar Frost

Postby mlees » Wed Dec 07, 2011 8:36 pm

I took a picture of some hoar frost a friend spotted just outside of our workplace in boulder. The snow feathers were almost an inch long! I would love to see everyone's frost pictures if ya got any.

Here are some pictures I took while hiking along the Beartooth Highway/Canyon above Red Lodge after it was closed in early October 3 yrs ago. When I started the hike the temp was -5F. I was prepared for 30F, but fortunately there was absolutely NO wind at all. I mean, completly still. With no windchill I was actually getting hot in the sun and unzipped my coat as I cut across the famous Beartooth Canyon switchbacks climbing up to the Rock Creek Overlook. This Hoar Snow/Frost completely covered the hwy at one point which is the first picture. The second is a close-up.

Here's a picture of me at the Rock Creek Vista. Notice the lack of cold weather gear I had on! I didn't even have gloves!!!

Indeed. After googling "hore" for a bit I was really wondering where snow came into the picture. Then it dawned on me, that's how you get the cold shower!
