Nice! I have planned to get to Shelf for the last two weekends but something always happens. Partner bailes.....etc. Let me know if anyone out there wants to head to Shelf for the weekend. Maybe a 14ers.com Shelf Meeting   I'll post a couple pictures from some closer areas to me but there not as good as above since the sun was in the way :)

And lastly a video of a big King Swing. Or how not to collide into your partner at full force

Would love to see others climbing shots as well!

Here's one of my 5 year old at REI last week, looking to get him on some outdoor rock soon. Just got him his first pair of climbing shoes.

I'm still building my climbing skills, but here's one on an easier route at Shelf Road, enjoying some chimney action in winter. What a great winter escape only 15 minutes from home ! :)

Jim: Yeah, that photo shows my best feature, no? I'd led the route at least 4-5 times over the years, so it was time to pass the baton to Sean (sstrauss here, you met him when we were exiting Harvard/Columbia). He did a great job on his lead. =D>

The route is called alternatively The Classic Dihedral or The Crack of Anticipation, pure trad, located on Bucksnort Slab near Pine. It's rated 5.7+ and I think it's fair for the grade; a bit easier but thinner for the first half or more, then a funky pod at top that's an odd slabby lieback exit. Bolted anchors at top; note it's a full 150', you'll need two ropes to rap. There's a second pitch, not recommended not only for the quality but also because it puts you way too close to the Shorts' house, the property owner. Local climbers have been allowed to climb there for decades with the understanding that climbing be kept low key: be cool with the limited parking, noise, trash, etc. It'd be a real shame to see Bucksnort go the way of the other classic South Platte formations in that valley (Squat Rock, Sphinx Rock) and get closed by landowners.

I love Shelf! Healing from a sprained ankle and broken foot so starring at photos of climbing makes me a little jealous :)
