Wetterhorn Camping

Postby neilsch » Fri Jun 28, 2013 11:32 am

Planning on climbing Wetterhorn around the end of July. Are there any camping spots around the 4wd trailhead ? The last time I climbed Wetterhorn was 1970. Cheers

Yes, there are several spots at both the end of the 2WD section and at the 4WD trailhead. You probably want to bring your own water, as the creek there is kind of a scary color (mine runoff).
Some people are afraid of heights. Not me, I'm afraid of white blood cells.

When I was there 5 years ago there was an excellent camping spot on the left side of the 2WD road about a couple miles below the trailhead. Lots of shade and water nearby.
If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you.

a few nice shaded spots right below the TH about 100 yards. I took a full size pickup in there last year with no problems. didn't really need 4x4 either.

Above the 4wd TH on the right. Beautiful views of Wetterhorn and Matterhorn. It would be a dry-camp.
