Chaffee County Road 273

Postby michaelgrundy » Tue Mar 19, 2013 3:00 pm

Hey,

Does anyone have any recent information on the Raspberry Gulch road (County Road 273). I am looking to possible hike on Antero or the Colorado trail and was wondering what the road conditions are like.

Thanks

Mike

Although I haven't been back in that area, I would expect that road to have meaningful snow/ice on it for three reasons: It tops out at nearly 10,000', I recall much of it being in the shade, and I seriously doubt that it is maintained (i.e., plowed) by the county. Also, while you didn't indicate a time frame, be aware that forecasts are for ~6" of new snow in that area over the weekend. Maybe it would be better to consider another location.

Thanks so much for the info. Based on your information and the impending doom with regards to the weather, we decided to not do this hike! Thanks for saving us a trip down there!
