Would the August hike be a weekday or weekend? I'd really want to be there and need to get the wheels turning at work...

Thanks all!

Yes, we play it quite often. Great song.

I'm going to be on humboldt for the memorial hike, but I'm not on the planning commision. I'll keep an eye out to see what gels and sets up.

Very well put upndown, you have said exactly what I feel. I too never met David but his death has hit me far harder than I would have thought. I still tear up reading these posts. I just saw his picture as someones avatar and it shook me for a second. For me at least I think David was our "leader". He seemed bigger than life. He was Superman. Superman can't be hurt. Maybe that's why this is so hard to accept. I really wish I could make it on a memorial hike but I will have a bottle of Mountain Dew and some Captain with me from now on. I aso hope that I can hike with some of you when I do get out there.

I think it's awesome that Talus Monkey's ashes are going to be spread in the places he loved so dearly! It seems only fitting.
I don't want to hijack the thread, but I have to mention another great song: "If We Never Meet Again This Side of Heaven" by Johnny Cash. It's actually an old hymn, but I like his version of it.

Soon we'll come to the end of life's journey
And perhaps we'll never meet anymore
'Til we gather in heaven's bright city
Far away on that beautiful shore

If we never meet again this side of heaven
As we struggle through this world and its strife
There's another meeting place somewhere in heaven
By the side of the river of life

Where the roses bloom forever
And where separation comes no more
If we never meet again this side of heaven
I will meet you on that beautiful shore

Oh they say we shall meet by the river
Where no storm clouds ever darkened the sky
And they say we'll be happy in heaven
In that wonderful sweet by and by

If we never meet again this side of heaven
As we struggle through this world and its strife
There's another meeting place somewhere in heaven
By the side of the river of life

Where the roses bloom forever
And where separation comes no more
If we never meet again this side of heaven
I will meet you on that beautiful shore
"Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint." ~Isaiah 40:30-31 (ESV)

David has made me think alot about this Vince Gill song.

Go Rest High On That Mountain

I know your life on earth was troubled
And only you could know the pain
You weren't afraid to face the devil
You were no stranger to the rain

Go rest high on that mountain
Son, your work on earth is done
Go to heaven a shoutin'
Love for the Father and the Son

Oh, how we cried the day you left us
We gathered round your grave to grieve
I wish I could see the angels faces
When they hear your sweet voice sing

Go rest high on that mountain
Son, your work on earth is done
Go to heaven a shoutin'
Love for the Father and the Son

Go rest high on that mountain
Son, your work on earth is done
Go to heaven a shoutin'
Love for the Father and the Son

Go to heaven a shoutin'
Love for the Father and the Son

Written by Vince Gill

I always thought it would be a song I would like to have them play for me.

I appreciate these sharing of songs. Music certainly can bring some comfort.

Some of the songs I've been playing: Rocky Mountain High (John Denver), Drift Away (Dobie Gray), All That We Let In (Indigo Girls), Somewhere Over the Rainbow (Israel Kamakawiwo'ole), Change (Tracy Chapman) and Into the West (David was a Lord of the Rings fan - this one is from Return of the King):

Lay down
Your sweet and weary head
Night is falling
You have come to journey's end

Sleep now
Dream--of the ones who came before
They are calling
From across a distant shore

Why do you weep?
What are those tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away

Safe in my arms
You're only sleeping

What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?

Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come
To carry you home

And all will turn to silver glass
A light on the water
All souls pass

Hope fades
Into the world of night
Through shadows falling
Out of memory and time

Don't say
We have come now to the end
White shores are calling
You and I will meet again

And you'll be here in my arms
Just sleeping

What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?

Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come
To carry you home

And all will turn to silver glass
A light on the water
Grey ships pass
Into the West
