Must be the coolest feeling to get on a blackhawk and go rescue people.

I was in the over night parking lot at Maroon Lake laying down for a nights sleep and I heard this entire thing going on. Crazy! I wondered what was happening. SO glad everyone is okay. Those rescue dudes are incredible.

So happy they are ok! Great job by the rescue team as usual.

I picture it like this: SAR members have these pagers like in the 1990 Film "Navy Seals" featuring Tom Cruise. They get a page and they all hop in a truck and head to the heli-pad.... High hopes lol.

"With the use of a climbing harness and headlamps, the four MRA climbers were able to evacuate Jennifer Kellogg using a climbing technique called a mechanical uphaul back to the west ridge just below the summit of North Maroon, where the group was then picked up in the darkness by the hovering UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter and flown to safety." - Denver Channel

1. Awesome

2. Could someone explain to me what is a "mechanical uphaul" technique?

Just read that MRA has already responded to 23 incidents since July 6th this year? That is insane.

Congratulations and thank you to MRA-Mountain Rescue Aspen for saving the lives of these two cliffed-out women!

And a friend of mine who works with MRA said this was their 2nd rescue of the day!

Could be anything, probably a 3 to 1 with pulleys and a simple progress capture ( ratchet ). There's 100s of way to rig such a thing.

We are lucky to have SAR with Blackhawks!
