June 5th first Wind Powered Ski Ascent Torreys

Postby catsh16 » Sat Jun 15, 2013 10:06 am

Was anyone here on Greys or Torreys Wedensday June 5th?? We made the first wind powered ski ascent of Torreys that day, If anyone was out and got pictures or video, We'd love to see it. At least within colorado, this is the highest wind powered ascent to a summit, and perhaps the 2nd ascent to the summit of a 14er.

Holy Crap!
We did not think of the great open plains, the beautiful rolling hills, and winding streams... as "wild". Only to the white man was nature a "wilderness".

Now that is my idea of hiking! Very cool! You just need to work on parasailing off the top, that skiing stuff looks like way too much work!

That's insane.....

With my luck, I'd be dragged through rocks and then jettisoned off the top. Very cool though.....

That is pretty cool.
What route did you go up? I'm also curious how you pick the right time and conditions for the wind.

Starting to the SW In Montezuma Basin, hiking up Peru Creek road (2miles) to Chuawawa creek(spelling). Finding the lines & wind? On Torreys it was not very scientific, but generally we are looking for SW aspects of mountains, and SW wind... It was really just the day that was available to give it a try. The forecast was actually very questionable going out... but it worked anyway.
On the otherhand... we took a shot at Mt Sopris in April... And flew in extremely high winds: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMQcUtu1jYM
