Best skiing conditions in the Sawatch right now?

Postby hberry » Wed Mar 23, 2011 8:19 am

Anyone have beta on which 14er in the Sawatch will have the best or most continuous snow from (near) top to bottom. Haven't seen a ton of updates recently from most of the peaks in the Sawatch. Thinking of hiking and skiing one this weekend.

Thanks in advance.

I don't have great beta for the Sawatch 14ers, but...

Last Sunday we found great snow on shady north facing aspects on Chicago Ridge (between Ski Cooper and Camp Hale). Surprised the hell out of me.

On the drive up from CB the night before I was eyeing Shavano/Antero/Tebaguache and the Collegiate Peaks and they looked very bare. It was dark by the time I got past BV so I can't say what anything else looked like on that day.

So, the further north you go the better and look for a good north facing descent line.
