Useful site for Skiers/Boards/Snowlovers

Postby jonpierre » Wed Nov 10, 2010 11:34 am

Hey all-
It has been a while since I've posted here but wanted to let you snow lovers out there know that we rewrote http://weknowsnow.com and added tons of new pow tools. The site is completely free, no advertisements and all about the Co and Wy backcountry. Here are some of the features:

* Facebook and OpenID Authentication
* CDOT Dynamic Message System Alerts
* CDOT RSS Feeds
* Streaming CoTrip/CDOT Cams
* Facebook Application Integration
* Snotel Station Dashboard / Harvest
* Snotel Graphs
* Weather and Backcountry Maps
* Snow Reports w/ Geolocated Webcams
* RSS Feeds and NOAA Winter Storm Warning Alerts
* Forecasts, Avalanche Information and More.

You don't have to register but it will allow you access to Snotel database and some of the other maps, etc. Enjoy!

Looks like a good way to pull together lots of different info. A couple suggestions: a mobile version, and a way to exclude information not relevant to individual users (for example, I'd exclude everything WY-related and probably SW Colorado as well).

The site seems to be a bit slow. Is this usual or does it have to do with current traffic from 14ers.com?

Great site, but pretty slow for me too. I'll be checking that out as the year goes on, I especially like all the maps.

The site is down right now but I did notice something before that...

When on the "Colorado Live" page, the streaming Flash highway embeds (center of page) do not show up unless I've previously used the Google map version. Looks like it's having problem loading the FSVClient.swf Flash file. To replicate this I simply closed all of my browser windows, then opened, cleared all cache, went directly to the "Colorado Live" page... and the videos would not load (blank). Once I went to the CDOT map and clicked on one of the streaming video map links, the "Colorado Live" Flash embeds would then work after a refresh. Same problem in IE, Chrome, Firefox and Safari.

Nice pages!

nice, thanks Bill. i think the outage was related to the transfer to the dedicates server. I'll look into that issue when the snow stops. Also adding a 14ers link to our links page. Thx!
