Just so someone doesn't get too lost trying to follow these directions, I am sure Cruiser meant to say "Berthoud Pass' not "Guanella Pass".

I think one of the best beginner winter 14er routes is Bierdstat, I've done that route skiing from the lot right to the summit and back down again. It does have a few spots that could slide, but is usually so wind hammered that it is pretty safe. Although it makes for horrible skiing it's a good place to realize that the skiing on the 14ers in winter generally sucks.

The misses and i are going to be up in Grand Lake this weekend doing some hiking...i may sneak away early am and get those skins to work.

any recommendation on beginner type runs over there with low/no avy danger?
