LCW Conditions - Tarryall Peak

Post by JasonF »

Anyone have current conditions of trail from Spruce Grove TH to Tarryall/Lake Park Peaks?

No specific info on your question, but I did Bison Peak on Monday. Road was mostly clear, some packed snow/ice patches but people still drove like maniacs. Lower part of trail was packed snow with some dirt stretches. Snow gradually got higher, unevenly packed from few previous hikers but no need for spikes and I don't think snowshoes would've helped b/c it was so bumpy. Near treeline it was over the ankle snow. On the summit plateau it was very windy, snow ranged from windswept vegetation to skimming over crust if you're light, or plunging through up to knee-deep powder underneath. We didn't wear any traction, my friend had poles but I didn't. 4 hours up, 3 hours down. Hope that gives you a general idea.
