help with family backpack
Looking for a place to take the family on a backpack trip. I have two little ones that can't hike very far. We would like to spend two nights in the same spot. We are looking for a spot that has water (so we don't need to bring much in) and a clearing that we can get a good view of the sky. A hike of about 2.5 miles with 800 feet of elevation and about an hour drive from the Golden area. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Ceran St. Vrain Trail n.w. of Boulder, any direction from Lost Park, or along Goose Creek or something along one of the creeks in the James Peak Wilderness.

Thanks for the replies, thought I might hear Goose Creek. We camped there last year but I don't remember seeing any campsites that had an open sky view, maybe we can find one.

It's a little busy, but Mohawk Lakes might fit your criteria pretty well. It's about 1.5 miles from the 4WD parking to the lakes, and there are several campsites around the lower lake.
