Chief Mtn

where exactly is the trailhead for chief mountain and is there parking?

I've used a couple of different TH's.

First, about 0.5 miles west of the entrance to Echo Mountain Ski Area on Squaw Pass Road there's a pullout with room for several cars on the north side of the road.
I'll try to find a photo but there's a concrete post with a 290 on it and an info sign on the south side of the road marking the start of the Chief Mountain Trail.

The second is about a mile farther west just after Squaw Pass Road makes a turn south, also with parking for several cars on the west side fo the road. On the east side of the road Old Squaw Pass Road heads back north and then east to access the Chief Mountain Trail.
I'll try to find a picture of this one, also.

If Im not mistaken I was with you and Derek and Brian on the first one and from what you posted, people should not have any trouble finding this one.

That said, when youre up there, go after Squaw and Papoose too! They are not far and more than worth the hike! I believe if you do the 3, you can come down the trail for the third and follow it back to your car down the road.

Sorry, man, it wasn't me, but Derek, Mike66, my nephew and I DID do the Squaw, Papoose, Chief loop in 2010. FWIW there was a LOT of snow on January 1 #-o
you can come down the trail for the third and follow it back to your car down the road.
We did exactly that an made a very nice loop.

We did exactly that an made a very nice loop.
I must have done it Jan 1, 2011 with them then and you were there the year before haha.

That really is an awesome hike/snowshoe that time of year!

near mile marker 18 there is a small dirt shoulder with cars usually. the trail starts within 50 yards of that lot
