New trail in Boulder open space ?
Coming down from Green mountain towards Bear canyon there's a nice, new, wide and gently descending trail to the left a few hundred yards before the Bear Peak West ridge turn-off. I followed it today for a good half mile where it ended in a stash of work equipement. Does anyone know what the deal is ?
Re: New trail in Boulder open space ?
Probably this:
"The reroute will move a portion of the trail out of the Bear Canyon riparian area. This, combined with other OSMP trail crew efforts, will help improve the entire length of the riparian area in Bear Canyon. Riparian areas provide essential habitat for a long list of plant and animal species and are some of the most biologically rich areas on the OSMP system. A portion of the reroute will move the trail out of Preble’s Meadow Jumping Mouse habitat. This federally listed endangered species requires riparian shrubland habitats like those found in Bear Canyon for breeding, feeding, and hibernation. The more sustainable trail alignment will decrease erosion which can degrade water quality in the creek and impact native vegetation."
