Trail condition to Mt Sniktau?

Post by My-Therapy »

I was thinking about parking at Loveland Pass on Sunday and hiking up to Mt Sniktau and was wondering what conditions to expect. I'd like to avoid snowshoes this weekend and thought this hike may be wind blown enough that boots will be adequate. Thanks for any conditions info.

My son and I did Sniktau last saturday. We carried snowshoes, crampons and axes, needed none of it. There is very light snow on the west side of the hills there. If you'd like, send me an email and I can send you some pics of the hike. I have yet to learn how to compress my photos so I can post them here.

This shot was taken last Tuesday afternoon. I was there for peaks across the highway, which had more snow, but your route should be clear.

I looked at the route for Sniktau on my way home from A-basin today. Honestly, it looks like you could nearly make it up the ridge from Loveland Pass without stepping in snow (I should have taken some pictures for you). In reality, there's still plenty of snow in the general area, but the climb route up that peak is pretty clear (as it often is). I wouldn't bother with snowshoes if I was going to do it tomorrow.

On Saturday, June 18th there was almost no snow. We did it in trail runners.
