Anyone been up Sopris lately?

Post by CR0SS »

I have not seen any trip reports but I know someone must have climbed it in the past week or two.

I have been looking at a ski line the past few weeks just down from the west summit. I am wondering how far down it descends. Also if it is very sun cupped or not.

Yes I saw that report. There has been a lot of melting since then and it also does not show what I am looking for.

CROSS,

I am the one who published the trip report that bjohnson17 mentions. Sorry I don't have any pictures of the snow below the western summit. I can tell you however, that both the couloirs are melted out in spots as is the upper portion of the glacier below the western summit (to the west of the rock glacier). You could probably get some skiing in, but would probably have to downclimb from the summit to reach snow.

I just took this photo of Sopris. The area shown by the arrow is what I am wondering about. From here it looks good but I am just wondering how much farther the snow descends. i am considering skiing it here in the next week.

Pretty impressive there is still snow there!
I've got no idea how far the snow lasts for. But I like the picture.
