What do you call Calendar Winter?
As stated above and just for clarification, is that a proper calendar winter i.e. December to March or whenever you have to use snowshoes or anything else than your regular shoes?

Thanks.
Yeah was just wondering because it doesn't really mean anything....April can be more challenging than February over here.

Re: What do you call Calendar Winter?
When discussing Winter I generally use Meteorological Winter- i.e. December, January, and February.
However, I think Calendar Winter is considered the same as Astronomical Winter which as stated above is Winter Solstice to Spring Equinox.
Now "Winter conditions" in Colorado could apply to most months depending on weather.

Is this in relation to reaching the summit of a peak?Fr3ako wrote:Thanks.

I wore snowshoes up until about a week before the start of calendar summer this year.

Re: What do you call Calendar Winter?
Yes Mike thanks, was just looking at the "Climb Time details" option to have an idea of who can fit my climb times during summer and project it onto (Calendar) Winter to have a rough idea of what could be possibly bagged during winter on snowshoes or not. Not very clear sometimes...Mike Shepherd wrote:

Winter solstice-spring equinox. I do find that long days out are the most miserable November-January due to the lack of daylight though

Re: What do you call Calendar Winter?
This year there was so much snow in June in the front range that not a single spot from 11k or above at Torrey's/Gray's was dry. Crazy snow this last year

Just trying to understand and make comparisons to get prepared as much as possible for possible winter climbs. I know you're beyond this point...I Man wrote:

Re: What do you call Calendar Winter?
I wonder if anyone has completed the CO 14ers in Colorado-winter vs. Calendar winter? What I'd call "Colorado Winter" is more like February-April... that sure would be a tougher task I would think.
