Own a piece of Mt Bross

Post by tlongpine »

20 acre lot priced at $45,000.
I am unable to walk away from the mountain without climbing it. An unclimbed mountain tugs at my consciousness with the eternal weight of time itself. Until I've pressed my face into it's alpine winds, hugged it's ancient granite walls, and put it's weathered summit beneath my heal I'm unable to resist it's attraction.Knowing nature gives the mountain more time than she gives us adds urgency to the obsession. As has been said before; the mountain doesn't care.

It can wait forever. I cannot.

it would be nice if a land trust existed to buy up these old mining claims so they would not get developed...

My thoughts exactly. Or, over time, put into trust a path towards the summit.

Just out of curiosity, how does buying something like this work ? Can you get title insurance on it for example ?

I've seen for sale signs up there several times over the last few years. My first thought was a B&B or hostel for climbers. But the problem is nobody wants to climb from that side. It's a pretty dismal trail, or actually road, on which you can be passed at any time by a 4wd vehicle or dirt bike. I think the Windy Ridge road is better than the road to Kite Lake.

Sorry for the question, but is this on the Quartzville side?
Life is too short to pay full retail for outdoor gear!

Yes, but a bit south of there. It's on the road from the Mineral Park trailhead to the Bross / Cameron saddle.

I can't see why not.

as long as the proper owner signs the deed, then you could get title insurance. The parcel of land is probably an old mining claim.

Mining claims expire if you dont pay an annual fee or do a $100 worth of work each year.
