Mount Yale 9/27

Post by mball »

I am looking to climb Mount Yale this Saturday 9/27. Noticed there is 30-40% chance of rain/thunderstorms.....I am coming from Oklahoma so I wanting to know if it would be a good idea to give it a shot before making the 10 hour drive! Thanks!

Normally I'd say start early and you should be fine. However, the hourly weather graph shows 30-40% chance of rain from 6AM on through the day (chance of lightning fairly low). I guess it depends if you're willing to hike in the rain or not.

Unless you have to make a go/no-go decision today, check the weather Friday before you leave & then decide. It's only Wednesday & weather forecasts here are quite fickle.

I'm planning to give Yale a try on Friday. Forecast for Fri and Sat looked fairly similar right now. Temps 40-50 F above treeline, light wind, ~30% chance of afternoon rain. I don't see anything that suggests you shouldn't make the trip.

Good idea to check forecast again before you head out though. Looks like it's already changed a little from bigred's note this morning. Hourly graphs now showing increased chance of rain starting noon or 1pm instead of earlier in the day. Mountain-forecast also only forecasts rain for the PM.
