Holy Cross inquiry

Post by waynebp »

Anyone have beta on Tigiwon Road -- conditions as well as any status related to fed govt shutdown. Have not been able to get through to ranger station. Also, was anyone up there this past weekend for feedback on trail conditions -- either Halo Ridge or Half Moon Pass routes? Many thanks.

Tigwon road is open to the trailhead. Only issue is the outhouse is shut down. Trail has a few inches of snow on it, not bad enough for gaiters, but microspikes can be useful. Did loop over Notch Mtn and neighbor, plenty of snow between boulders led to slightly slower travel on high ridge. Half Moon pass trail in decent shape.

The trail was 95% covered in snow when we hit trail early Sunday morning, however by that afternoon I would say only maybe 70% (maybe less) of the trail was still covered. The trail was actually fairly dry in some areas but had some slick mud others in the afternoon. It was evident that even sections with snow had melted out quite a bit from morning to afternoon. The trail is well packed down now and I think Micro-spikes would be helpful in the snowy sections above treeline. It was a cold start early (18 deg), however warmed up nicely and was a beautiful hike. I would think by midweek that there would only be minimal snow remaining on the route due to the warm and sunny forecast for the next several days. Enjoy!
