Bierstadt Conditions

Post by brianb10 »

Hi all,

Thinking of trying Bierstadt this weekend with the wife and our 7 year old daughter. Will be going up the Grant side of the road, is it open all the way to the lot? As far as conditions on the trail, is it going to be super muddy or big puddles? Hoping that trail-runners will be ok for footwear. Thanks for any info.

Hiked it 2 weeks ago (http://arlojeep.com/Hiking-Trip-Reports ... t-6-19-10/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) and the willows part of the trail at the beginning of muddy. Early in the morning it was still frozen pretty solid, however by 11am it was super soft. I used trail running shoes, hiked on the trail the entire time (instead of expanding the ever widening trail system there), and was able to stay mud free in the shoe, just the outside was moderately dirty. The top 1/3 of the trail had frozen ice on the trail that in late morning was all melting. People on the way up were complaining about the VERY mild mud, but compared to the mornings ice accent it was better muddy than icy.

Small snow fields at the top - shouldn't be a worry though.

You can drive to the lot without any snow or anything remotely close.
